If you’ve ever hopped on a metro, caught a bus, or even paid for a taxi in Dubai, chances are you’ve used an NOL card. Introduced in 2009, this rechargeable smart card has become essential for anyone navigating the city’s transport system.
The NOL card makes moving around Dubai so convenient—no longer having to dig into pockets for change or queue up to get some back. It is covered by one card, from the Metros and buses to the trams, water buses, and even taxis. But they are not all the same.
Every color of an NOL card serves a function, so if you don't know which one you require, here is a quick guide on the types of NOL cards.
What is a NOL Card?
Let us know about the basics first before moving on to the different types of NOL cards.
NOL is the Arabic term for "fare," and the NOL card is a rechargeable smart card that you can use to pay for various modes of transport in Dubai, such as the Metro, buses, trams, water buses, and taxis. No need to carry coins anymore or purchase single tickets.
Simply tap in, tap out, and go.
